Hunting Vizslas in Action

Fundamentally, Vizslas are hunting dogs that were originally bred to find game on the terrain of Hungary. The Vizsla basically combines the best qualities of a retriever and a pointer.

Vizsla dogs have excellent senses of smell and can help their masters find their prey. As you can see in the video, when the dog finds something, it will point with its paw.

Most hunting owners use their Vizsla dogs to track birds. However, the Vizsla is very versatile and can apply its hunting instincts to almost any kind of game.

Two of the most valued hunting traits of the Vizsla are its speed and its caution. The dog is capable of running very quickly, but it will not rush prematurely at the game like other breeds.

Watch Informative Video of Vizsla Dogs

vizsla dogs

For an information-packed video on Vizsla dogs, visit the Animal Planet Dog 101 video site at Animal.discovery.com/videos/dogs-101-vizsla.html. Discovery has created a four-minute video providing valuable facts about the breed.

One of the first things you'll learn is that Vizslas are remarkably clean dogs. In fact, they are the only breed that is odor-free.

Vizslas do not have the "dog" scent that other breeds do. The video also talks about the Vizsla's rich history as a royal dog.

Despite the Vizsla's calm and statuesque exterior, though, the breed is still surprisingly full of pep. They are great hunting dogs and wonderful, energetic companions.

Information on the Wirehaired Vizsla

wirehaired vizsla

Although not quite as common as the smooth-coated Vizsla, the wirehaired Vizsla is still fairly easy to find through breeders. The wirehaired version of the breed is also known as the Hungarian Wire-Haired Pointing Dog.

The wirehaired description refers to the Vizsla's long, broken coat. This longer coat is in contrast to the traditional Vizsla coat, which is short and smooth.

Despite the length of the wirehaired coat, it is not difficult to keep in peak condition. Owners will need to brush the coat with a firm-bristle brush and shampoo the coat dry regularly.

When bathing wire-coated Vizslas, owners should use mild bath soap only. Wire-coated Vizslas are only average shedders, which makes them ideal house companions.

Custom Vizsla Kennel Options

vizsla kennel

If your Vizsla enjoys being outside but has a tendency to wander, a custom Vizsla kennel may be the solution you need. Custom kennels are especially useful for owners of larger dogs like Vizslas who do not have fenced yards.

Custom kennels range in size to accommodate the dimensions of your back yard. You can get a kennel that includes a run for your Vizsla to exercise or a kennel that is sized more like a dog house.

With most custom kennels, you will have the option of buying and installing the kennel yourself or paying extra for installation. If you are purchasing a larger kennel with a run, you might want to pay for professional installation.

To get an idea of the options available, visit DogKennels.com to see prices and dimensions. You can look at dog runs, crates, exercise pens, and more.
