This past week I took a very unscientific poll among my friends, family and co-workers. What I wanted to know, was if any of them had heard of the Vizsla dog breed. Out of the 20 people I asked only 1 had heard of them and 2 thought they had heard of them. The other 17 people had never heard of the Vizsla dogs.

How can this be when they are considered one of the best hunting dogs and family pets out there? Maybe it is just a very well kept secret. One that Vizsla owners don't want everyone else to know about. Just maybe. I mean why would they want to share their version of Man's Best Friend with anyone else? The Vizsla dog breed is a wonderful pet and hunting dog. Any family or hunter would be lucky to own one. A properly raised Vizsla truly is your best and most loyal friend. But the key words are properly raised.

To be a responsible Vizsla dog owner you have to give them all the proper training, gently discipline, plenty of exercise and good nutrition. This is true with any dog breed but if you want your Vizsla, who are a great dog to own, to be all they can be you have to be a responsible pet owner.

Vizslas are lively and fearless and they need plenty of exercise. A bored Vizsla will do what any bored dog will do - act destructive. Be sure you get them out and running 30 min. to an hour a day at the minimum.

Big Win For Vizsla Dog Breed

In Ripon, North Yorkshire where the regions biggest dog show takes place, a Hungarian Vizsla dog named Yogi owned by K. Armstrong and N. Cragg took the top honors.

Yogi beat out 8,000 other competitors after three days of fierce competition. The Darlington Dog Show Society's Championship Show has every breed of pedigree dog registered with the Kennel Club and is a major event in the area.

The Vizsla dog Yogi's registered name is Hungargunn Bear It's Mind. Owners Armstrong and Cragg say they are extremely proud of their Vizsla dog and they love the Vizsla breed.

The event was a big success said dog owner Sarah Allsop. "It was a very happy show and everyone seemed perfectly satisfied. The venue has been beautiful and the show field a credit."
