Hunting Vizslas in Action

Fundamentally, Vizslas are hunting dogs that were originally bred to find game on the terrain of Hungary. The Vizsla basically combines the best qualities of a retriever and a pointer.

Vizsla dogs have excellent senses of smell and can help their masters find their prey. As you can see in the video, when the dog finds something, it will point with its paw.

Most hunting owners use their Vizsla dogs to track birds. However, the Vizsla is very versatile and can apply its hunting instincts to almost any kind of game.

Two of the most valued hunting traits of the Vizsla are its speed and its caution. The dog is capable of running very quickly, but it will not rush prematurely at the game like other breeds.

Vizslas - Best Dogs In The World?

vizslasDon't ask a Boxer, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Poodle, Labrador or Husky pet owner, but if you ask a Vizsla pet owner, the answer to that question would be a definite yes.

I mean what is wrong with them? Not much apparently, and there is a whole lot of things that are right about this dog breed.

They have short hair, so there is not much shedding. They are cute as can be as puppies. They are easily trainable and they are pretty darn smart. They love water and are adventurous and clever. They make excellent hunting and retrieving dogs and need we say again, great family pets. Excellent around children and pretty good guard dogs (pretty good.)

Are Vizsla's Friendly With Other Dogs?

vizslasAre Vizsla's friendly with other dogs? Vizsla's are generally loving, demonstrative and gently natured but can also be a bit willful and distractible. They are very smart but need a firm hand when trained.

They may be too energetic for very young and small children but for older children they would be perfect.

They do generally get along very well with other dog breeds. But the key is to exercise them plenty and as with any breed, raise them properly. You need to socialize the Vizsla dog breed well and get them accustomed to all people, places and animals. It should not be hard to do since Vizsla's are also highly trainable and very willing to please.

Field Cover Biggest Problem For Pheasant Hunters Not Vizslas!

VizslasWhat is the biggest problem for most pheasant hunters? It is the thick field cover of native grasses that can grow six to eight feet high that is the largest obstacle for pheasant hunters finding their downed prey. But thick fields pose no problem for the persistent Vizslas that can wind their way through nearly any obstacle course to retrieve what they were trained to get.

A perfect pheasant habitat is in Nebraska in the early morning and the land is hard on humans to get around. Vision is limited and walking is labored for the hunters looking for pheasant but the agile Vizslas prove all their usefulness in this training field. They are the perfect hunting partner.
