Information on the Wirehaired Vizsla

Although not quite as common as the smooth-coated Vizsla, the wirehaired Vizsla is still fairly easy to find through breeders. The wirehaired version of the breed is also known as the Hungarian Wire-Haired Pointing Dog.
The wirehaired description refers to the Vizsla's long, broken coat. This longer coat is in contrast to the traditional Vizsla coat, which is short and smooth.
Despite the length of the wirehaired coat, it is not difficult to keep in peak condition. Owners will need to brush the coat with a firm-bristle brush and shampoo the coat dry regularly.
When bathing wire-coated Vizslas, owners should use mild bath soap only. Wire-coated Vizslas are only average shedders, which makes them ideal house companions.
